What We Work On

We support a wide range of communication goals, including:

Speech sounds

Helping children be understood clearly and confidently.

Language comprehension and expression

Supporting understanding (receptive language), building vocabulary, sentences and storytelling skills, or supporting gestalt language processors for children who communicate through language “chunks” or scripts.

Early literacy / phonological awareness

Building the foundations for reading, writing and school readiness through playful and meaningful learning experiences.

Literacy

Supporting children with reading and spelling skills.

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication)

Helping children who use or are exploring AAC to communicate in ways that feel natural and empowering.

Self-advocacy and communication confidence

Supporting children to understand themselves as communicators and express their needs, preferences and ideas in ways that feel right for them.

Neurodiversity understanding and support

Offering guidance for children and families as they learn about their autistic, ADHD, or otherwise neurodivergent identities, celebrate strengths, and discover what helps each child feel safe, confident, and understood.

Every child’s journey is different. Assessment and therapy may focus on one or more of these areas depending on your child’s needs.

Step 1

Initial Contact and Fit Check

When you first get in touch by phone, email or through our website contact form, you’ll speak with Nadine, our Director and lead speech pathologist. She’ll have a friendly chat to learn more about your child, answer any questions, and make sure we’re the right fit for your family.

We’ll also confirm your location, discuss funding options, check our availability, and provide fee details tailored to your child’s needs.

Step 2

Getting Started

Once we’ve confirmed we’re a good fit, we’ll send you an online background information form to complete. After that, your assigned speech pathologist will give you a complimentary phone call to introduce themselves, discuss your child’s needs in more detail, gather any further information, answer your questions, and help you feel confident moving forward.

Step 3

Building Connection

Some children benefit from an initial rapport-building session to get comfortable with their therapist. During this time we play games, follow the child’s lead, explore their interests and simply have fun together. This helps build trust and sets the foundation for enjoyable therapy sessions.

Step 4

Assessment

If your child has not had a recent speech pathology assessment (within the past year), we will start with one. Our assessments draw on a variety of approaches: formal and informal tools, observation, and input from parents, teachers, and caregivers.

This helps us understand your child’s unique strengths and communication needs — whether in speech sounds, language, literacy, or a combination of these. You’ll receive a written report within two weeks, which can be shared with teachers or other professionals of your choosing.

Step 5

Therapy

Therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes face-to-face, plus an additional 15 minutes non-contact time for planning, creating home resources, collaborating with teachers and writing detailed notes. These notes are shared with parents and teachers for childcare and school-based sessions.

Sessions may be weekly or fortnightly, and take place at home, school, or childcare centres across the Adelaide Hills.

Our approach is flexible, compassionate, and designed to fit seamlessly into your family’s everyday life.

Where Sessions Happen

We provide flexible service delivery across the Adelaide Hills and firmly believe therapy works best when it feels natural, meaningful, and part of your child’s everyday world.

Therapy in Schools, Kindergartens and Childcare Centres

We work closely with teachers, SSOs, and education staff to support each child’s communication and participation at school. By being part of their learning environment, we help new skills grow naturally through play, routines, and real-life interactions.

At Home Speech Therapy

For many children, home is where they feel most comfortable and confident. We bring therapy to you, adapting sessions to fit your family’s routines, space, and goals, so communication growth can happen in the moments that matter most.

Speech Reports, Collaboration & Education

At Voices in Bloom, we believe communication grows best when everyone works together. We keep families and educators in the loop and value respectful collaboration with teachers, SSOs, and other professionals.

After each session, we provide schools with a copy of the session notes (with your consent) to help support consistency across learning environments. Assessment reports can also be shared with schools. Usually we provide these to families so they can pass them on as needed.

All updates and reports are written in clear, family-friendly language, highlighting your child’s strengths, progress, and next steps.
