What to Expect with Your Child’s Speech Therapy
Every child is unique and so is their therapy. Here’s what you can expect when you start with us.
Initial Contact and Fit Check
When you first get in touch by phone, email or through our website contact form, you’ll speak with Nadine, our Director and lead speech pathologist. She’ll have a friendly chat to learn more about your child, answer any questions, and make sure we’re the right fit for your family.
We’ll also confirm your location, discuss funding options, check our availability, and provide fee details tailored to your child’s needs.

Getting Started
Once we’ve confirmed we’re a good fit, we’ll send you an online background information form to complete. After that, your assigned speech pathologist will give you a complimentary phone call to introduce themselves, discuss your child’s needs in more detail, gather any further information, answer your questions, and help you feel confident moving forward.

Building Connection
Some children benefit from an initial rapport-building session to get comfortable with their therapist. During this time we play games, follow the child’s lead, explore their interests and simply have fun together. This helps build trust and sets the foundation for enjoyable therapy sessions.

Assessment
If your child has not had a recent speech pathology assessment (within the past year), we will start with one. Our assessments draw on a variety of approaches: formal and informal tools, observation, and input from parents, teachers, and caregivers.
This helps us understand your child’s unique strengths and communication needs — whether in speech sounds, language, literacy, or a combination of these. You’ll receive a written report within two weeks, which can be shared with teachers or other professionals of your choosing.

Therapy
Therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes face-to-face, plus an additional 15 minutes non-contact time for planning, creating home resources, collaborating with teachers and writing detailed notes. These notes are shared with parents and teachers for childcare and school-based sessions.
Sessions may be weekly or fortnightly, and take place at home, school, or childcare centres across the Adelaide Hills.
Our approach is flexible, compassionate, and designed to fit seamlessly into your family’s everyday life.
